From the Flat Land to the Swamps

My name is Ginger LeCompte.  Full disclosure, it is Virginia Ann Pope LeCompte, but at this age and stage of life, I have to just embrace all of the twists and turns of my journey, and admit to all of the information you might find through the "hints" from Ancestry.com where nothing is hidden!

As a young adult indoctrinated by the culture and values of the small West Texas community of Lamesa, Texas, I was intrigued and slightly envious of the people of South Louisiana.  My mother and step-father relocated with their companies in Odessa to Thibodaux, Louisiana in 1972.  My experience of several visits there, introduced me to the place of my dreams.  This is where I belonged.  This is the Louisiana I fell in love with.  By the way, New Orleans had a very special gravitational pull on me, as well.  So, in 1980, given the opportunity to move to New Orleans with my job at Freeport Oil, I felt dreams and destiny finally collided and there was no turning back.  But, don't worry.  This Texan-turned-Cajun has managed to claim two cultures while blending in at the same time.
